eP!phany in the pit of P!NK performance

P!NK raised her glass and the bar tonight at her sold out opening show on her Truth About Love tour.

And I had an epiphany from the rock pit.

As the curtains flung open on the opening act, P!NK threw caution to the wind soaring high above the crowd with dynamic acrobatics and aerials. She floated and sang in synchronization to the robustly choreographed cirque du soleil visuals. Athletically and artistically brilliant for any world class aerialist let alone a rock and roller.

Yet the crowd gasped when she missed a key flip that I am sure she was expecting to nail with flawless execution after countless hours of exhaustive rehearsals. What a gut wrenching disappointment on her opening song after a three year hiatus from a live tour.

What did she do?

P!NK giggled.

She flicked the flub in her performance aside like water off a ducks back and the crowd roared their approval. She reached out to the crowd and allowed her mistake to actually be endearing by acknowledging her error and her vulnerability.

What did I learn from this?

Human vulnerability gives artists, performers, speakers and leaders an immense head start on truly connecting to their audience or team. P!NK attempted to Dare Greatly and allowed her mistake to be an opportunity to be an authentic moment uniquely shared with this crowd, this night.

Bravo P!NK

thanks for the lesson
